Ah, crisp, cozy weather is on its way and a perfect time to enjoy snuggling up with a book. The text in the board book Grandma Snuggles is made up of a series of rhyming poems that celebrate grandmothers of all kinds—beavers, hedgehogs, pandas, and more. Splish and splash with the ducks, burrow with the rabbits, and purr with the cats.
Board books often have sparse text, but this one has a longer, poetic structure that makes the gentle read-aloud perfect for a soothing story time. In a time when social-distancing is required for so many grandparents and grandchildren, a book that celebrates snuggles is especially heartwarming.
The visually-textured illustrations fill the pages with fuzzy-wuzzy cheerfulness, endearing animals, and bright outdoor scenes. Joyful smiles and details like a teensy worm repeated throughout the book will hold the attention of the littlest littles.
Grandma Snuggles serves as a faith-forward but not overly-preachy reminder of the God who provides us with all good and wonderful things. It would be perfect for a grandparents’ day gift (hint, hint, that’s this week September 13) that littles and grandma can snuggle up and read together.
